Humpy’s restaurant, Anchorage, Alaska

May 2, 2013 in Alaska, US

Humpy’s is a restaurant and a Bar in Fairbanks. They serve the most delicious salmon that I’ve ever tried. They also have draft beer and many sea food options

Where: 610 W 6th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501

Hours: they have kitchen hours and Bar hours, It’s better check. But usually the kitchen goes until midnight or 1 am and the bar closes 2 am.

The first thing that I did when I arrived in downtown Anchorage was find a restaurant not very expensive to eat fresh and good salmon and the locals indicated Humpy’s

I ordered a wild salmon cooked in a plank with a special sauce, rice and vegetables as you can see in the picture. The price was good, it costed me  20 dollars.

The next day I wanted to eat the same thing and something more special, so I decided to try the Jumbo Red King Crab from Alaska. It’s big as its price, 23 dollars.

it’s not a big portion but it’s meat is delicious, soft and tasteful, the texture reminds me lobster but it’s different.

It’s a must go restaurant to try delicious and not expensive food in Anchorage, I recommend it!

Turtle cove, Waikiki, O’ahu, Hawaii

April 17, 2013 in Hawaii, North America, US

One of the amazing thing that I did in Hawaii was snorkeling with turtles.

Date: I went in January 2013
Price: I can’t remember now, but I bought a Groupon voucher and I think I paid 40 american dollars.
Company: Island Magic Catamaran, Inc

It’s necessary to book in advance this tour, specially if you have a big group. The boat is small and the seats are very limited.

I had this unforgettable experience and It’s something hard to describe in words. I was touched by the beauty, by the opportunity, by the unique moment.

You get a boat close to Waikiki beach that takes you to a coral reef area where turtles lives and you can go there to watch them. Just watch, Hawaii has a law that you can NOT touch turtles.

I strong recommend everybody to do this amazing activity! It’s a life time experience!

University of Alaska Museum, Fairbanks, Alaska

April 4, 2013 in Alaska, US

Before anything I recommend that you read this short post about preparing the trip to Alaska.

This is one of the highlights of Fairbanks, this museum has a huge collection of the native population and many animals. This museum is a mandatory stop for travelers interested in culture, history and animals.

Location UAF University Park Building. Address: 907 Yukon Dr , Fairbanks, AK 99709

Price
: 12 US dollars for adults admission

It’s really easy to get there you can go driving, or you can get the public transportation that it costs 3 dollars unlimited  per day. The red, blue or yellow lines can take you to the museum for 3 dollars round trip.

Inside the museum there are many activities to do and to see. I recommend that you arrive early to have time to see everything with no rush because there are many unique artifacts and  animals that you want to take time to appreciate.

I recommend that if your guide don’t take you around and explain to get the audio guide for 4 Us dollars, because most of the things there is no explanation is just the thing without more information. (Most of the main things have explanation)

This museum has 2 highlights, the giant whale bone and the well conserved bison, it has 36,000 year old! MUST CHECK IT OUT!

Ice park, Fairbanks, Alaska

March 28, 2013 in Alaska, US

Before anything I recommend that you read this short post about preparing the trip to go to Alaska

One of the local things to do in Fairbanks is to visit the Ice Park, there you can find many things related to ice, ice sculpture, ice sliding, snow tubing, etc.

Location: 3070 Phillips Field Road, Fairbanks, Alaska, USA
Price: Admission is 10 US dollars per adult and 5 US dollars per children.

Tips: Take your camera with you!
Tips: Dress harm clothes, it’s really cold and windy
Tips: Try to take pictures with the sun behind the sculpture, it has a nice effect!

You can go at night and they use lights to light up the sculpture, it’s nice too! It might be way colder at night…. your choice =)

It’s something really different from everything, it’s a park where children will in interact with the slides made of ice and the adults that are not freezing will appreciate the giant sculptures of ice that were in a contest. For the one who is freezing, the park has a cafeteria in side a house with heater were you can buy hot beverages and snacks. it’s not expensive!

Another option for kids is do snow tubing to enjoy the park, it’s not that long neither high but it can be fun!

Santa’s Smokehouse, Fairbanks, Alaska

March 28, 2013 in Alaska

Before anything I recommend that you read this short post about preparing the trip to Alaska.

If you are near Fairbanks  I strongly recommend you to stop near but this place to buy some fresh smoked salmon strips to eat on the way to the sightseeing.

Address: 2400 Davis Road, Fairbanks, Alaska 99701

I bought and ate the smoked salmon strips and it costed around 7 dollars a package. They have a bunch of other thing but I don’t think for a tourist that is at the hotel is a good option to buy their other stuff because we don’t have how to cook it.

It’s delicious!!! there are many kinds of sauce that you can chose to eat with your smoked salmon, it comes in a vacuum package to keep it fresh.

I strongly recommend it if you are in Fairbanks, the price is good and the taste is incredible!

Even if you are not in Alaska, you can order through their website!
