BBQ Dinner Experience

I am a big Fan of BBQ.

You can find a second place beat the International Smokeless BBQ, which is located at 600 Washington Ave, Philadelphia, ,PA 19147. At a price low as $17.95, I had grilled own fresh beef, short ribs, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, veggies, served on a big tray.

Worth to mention:  The Meat is endless; the meat is marinated to perfection; Go there if you like lots of meat that you can cook yourself to your liking.

I also add a hotpot on the stove which is another option. It was so great to have BBQ with seafood hotpot at the same time. The crabs, clams, fish meat are very fresh and tasty.

All for only $17.95 for each person, everything unlimited!

Oyster Experience

Oyster Experience

To have a full experience of food, I would love to explore the stories or histories behind the food. Before introducing the Oyster House and its delicious food, I would love to spend a little few words talking about Oyster. Human beings have a long history of eating oyster, longer than you thought!

Ancient Greeks used to serve oysters as an incentive to drink. Romans imported them from England, placed them in salt water pools and fattened them up by feeding them wine and pastries. Native Americans on both coasts of North America considered oysters a staple foodstuff. Great piles of oyster shells in many different areas of the shoreline are evidence of the early voracious appetite for these mollusks. Nowadays, in Europe, a dozen is considered a standard serving size for a course, whereas in the US, a half-dozen is the norm. Americans alone consume over 100 million pounds of oysters per year.

There’s an old saying which is “Only buy oysters in months with the letter ‘r’ “May through August, although natural Gulf water oysters can spawn year-round due to the warm waters. Spawning causes them to become fatty, watery, soft, and less flavorful instead of having the more desirable lean, firm texture and bright seafood flavor of those harvested in cooler, non-spawning months.

The best place in the city to eat Oyster is Oyster House.

There are 7 different raw oysters on the Menu.  I have tried 6. The best one served oyster I think was Malpeques from Prince Edward Island (PEI), which was long recognized as one of the world’s finest oysters. I had a dozen of Malpeques with salsa, which costs one dollar each. It was more expensive; I got the one dollar happy hour deal in the Oyster House in University City.  The happy hour is 5-7 Monday-Friday and 9-10 on Saturdays. It features $1 oysters.

You want to have REALLY SPICY food?

April 25th, 2013

As you all know,Chinese cuisine could be really spicy. One of the most spicy food in Chinese cuisines is Sichuan Food. In Philadelphia, the most spicy Sichuan food you can get is from Jane G’s.

The restaurant owner spent a lot of money on the decoration. When I entered Jane G’s, I had a very different feeling as I walked into any Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. It’s telling me I might get greater goods other than having food itself.

Two words:  comforting and satisfying.

Now, I will talk about the food there. Moral of the story, do not order anything that’s not in the Szechuan Part of the menu. These mean that if you can’t stand spice, you should probably stay away. I only took look of the menu, I figured that I want to order all dishes on it!! Starting with cold starters, I recommend Spicy mouth-watering chicken and Beef Lover’s Quarrel in chili oil!!! These two are my loves. Usually we won’t hot soup when having Sichuan Style Entrees.

Here comes the best part of it: Chef Xue’s Spciy Perfume Style, which has hot and spicy stew bean sprouts, glass noodles, enoki in it. You will have to choose the meat from chicken, pork intestine, beef tripe, beef and fish. Last time, we ordered Triple pepper beef tripe, which is a traditional dish Sichuan People love. I am not from Sichuan province. However, a few minutes after we put the order, the chef came out of the kitchen to talk to us. We felt honored and surprised that he asked us how do we want the dish to be cooked. That made us feel so special (:

Besides that two spicy dished, we also ate Fried Tofu with Chinese Okra, which is a helper of my tongue. Usually, I don’t order drink when I eat spicy food. I drank 4 full glasses of iced water instead.

Tips:

1. Happy hour holding every weekdays Monday through Friday (5pm-7pm)

2. If you cannot stand spice, better quit. Don’t order General Tso’s honey walnut chicken. Because you can have it anywhere else at a cheaper price, not Jane G’s!

Vic Sushi, Philadelphia

March 11th, 2013

Vic Shushi Bar has served the Center City philadeophia area with quality sushi and affordable prices.  Unlike other sushi places, Vic is really small and can serve at most 10 people in store. It is also a very homely place good for hanging out with friends. It allows people to post their pictures on the wall to capture the moments spending time together.

Worth to mention they have 10 dollar three rolls special anytime, not only for lunch, but for dinner.  You can watch they cooking at the bar and the seafood is fresh and with high quality.

It definitely deserves a “Must Go” .

Fogo de Chao Dinner

February 19th, 2013

Fogo de Chao (fo-go dee shoun) is an authentic Brazilian steakhouse. The restaurant chain has multiple locations in both U.S. and Brazil. So far, Fogo de Chao has 18 locations in the U.S.

On February 7th, my friend Kenny and I went there, and I was so impressed by the fresh, delicious food and the fabulous service! I love the history part of the restaurant as well. The story of Fogo de Chao began in the mountainous countryside of Rio Grande do Sul in Southern Brazil, where its founders were born. Growing up, the brothers were immersed in the centuries-old Gaucho culture, a rich blend of traditions from European immigrants and Brazilian natives.  An important element of this culture is churrasco, the Gaucho way of roasting meats over pits of open fire for delicious barbecues. In 1979,the first Fogo de Chao opened its doors in Porto Alegre.  In 1986, Fogo expanded their business to Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city. Ten years later, Fogo exported their concept to North America, opening the doors of the first U.S. restaurant in Dallas, Texas.

The dining experience was fun. Since it was the first time we have been there, a very nice waiter gave us a heads-up on the dining experience. Step one, he recommend us to have some salad from the sides bar. They offer over 30 items including fresh cut vegetables, imported cheese, cured meats and Brazilian side dishes. Step two, both of us have a card on the table. We signaled the gaucho chefs to begin tableside service when turn the green side up.  It offers 14 cuts of delectable fire roasted meats.  I chose warm red centered medium rare temperature as usual.  I highly recommend Fraldinha to you!  It is the bottom Sirloin.  It has an unmatched juiciness and robust flavor.  My friend Kenny liked Cordeiro ( which is how Brazilians say fresh lamb) very much! According to the introduction, the lamb chops and tender leg of lamb was imported from New Zealand and flavored with special fresh mint marinade.

It is a great way to experience the culture of Brazil and of course the food culture! There is another place in Center City named Chima. It is a Brazilian Steakhouse like Fogo de Chao.

Favorite parts:

1. Almost immediately, upon seating, the servers got our drinks ready and had a plateof Cheese Bread ( Did I mention the bread is constantly refilled? )

2. The waiters won’t stop serving the meat to you until you flip the card to the red color side up. ( Yes, they will come to you !o!)

3.  Need to start off slow to try everything in the salad bar really!

4. In the end, both of us were stuffed :) )))

Restaurants’ Week Stop One: American Chinese Food

January 31st, 2013

One of STARR Restaurants in Philadelphia.

Stephen Starr, owner of STARR restaurants began working in the restaurant industry at the age of 21 when he opened his first club in an Old City diner, Grand Mom Minnie’s which served food during the day and comedy at nights.

Last time I was there,  we forgot the reserve for the table. Since it is so popular. We waited for almost an hour to be sitted.  Make reservation during Restaurant Week if you go!
