You read that right! Dick Clark Productions, the team that produces the prestigious Grammy Awards, has announced that an award show for Electronic Dance Music is in the works. There are several resources that have reported this exciting news including the New York Post. What’s his motive? It’s the exceeding growth in popularity of this music genre.
tune in, turn up
Here’s a live set of Armin van Buuren, the highest paid EDM DJ, from Ultra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uibm_RQfZ-M&list=PLBg1SJiXSxfLVPyurUABbIMUkhphmq7i5&index=8

My friend described the second weekend of Ultra as, “The greatest music festival he has ever attended.” The Bayfront Park in Miami is an excellent area for this, and a recent study stated that the festival in 2012 racked in $79 million into South Florida (more here). Surprisingly, Ultra was only one weekend last year, and this year it gained popularity to the point that it sold out both weekend! I will post a report on revenue and figures from this year’s festival in the near future.
As Temple’s spring break rapidly went by us, over the weekend I tuned into the live streaming of the infamous Ultra Music Festival. This was the 15th year it was being held in Miami, and almost every recognized EDM DJ performed. This year Ultra’s management team extended the festival for two weekends and it will end this Sunday, the 24th. Ultimately, it is being capped off by Swedish House Mafia’s final performance on Sunday at 9:30pm

This EDM group is a trio that consist of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, and Steve Angello. As a group and individually, their music is recognized worldwide and has inspired many young and rising DJs. Back in June, 2012, the group announced their final tour across the world. Luckily, a few friends and I are going to see them at the Barclay Center this weekend in New York. My mouth dropped when tickets sold out for their Madison Square Garden show in 8 seconds! I will be sure to post pictures and upload videos on here to share the experience!
Here’s their latest single: Don’t you worry child
Here you’ll see just how insane and popular this group really is!
Here is an article of income and revenues by today’s top DJs. Impressive facts to notice is how Tiesto can walk away with a minimal amount of $250,000 / show and that’s without any endorsements. Another shocker is DJ Pauly D is ranked 7th in top paid DJs. The guy is funny but I dont think he is talented in making music unlike others on the list. I can’t even name a song by him. Can you?

Electronic dance music has been around for a few decades but has made a recent invasion to our youth population, mainly between ages 15-28. It has led DJs and EDM to be written about in magazines such as TIME, Forbes, and New York Times. Some of my favorite DJs include Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Tiesto (who’s coming to the Liacouras Center in February, and Avicii. What are you favorite DJs?, and Can you name some old heads?
hint: think “one more time” and another has a last name that rhymes with paparazzi or kamikaze.
