Wednesday’s Karaoke

So fun fact about me I am a closet karaoke lover. I do not like singing karaoke unless there is some serious liquid courage, but the thrill of watching others embarrass themselves is a great time. I recently discovered this past summer that McGillian’s has karaoke every Wednesday night starting at 9pm. Also, McGillian’s is Philadelphia’s oldest bar, it threw it’s doors open when Lincoln became president!

Unfortunately, zero of my girlfriends enjoy watching karaoke like me. I have only been to McGillian’s karaoke twice and both have been on the awkward first date deal. Funny thing is both guys went up to sing. Most say have never laughed so hard! I just love the vibe at McGillian’s grab a pitcher of beer and have some laughs and listen to some people decently sing and some that you are dying for the song to be over.

The last time I was there this older gentleman in his 70′s went up and seriously stole the show! He sang “Moon Dance by Van Morrison”! He brought not only being able to sing the song, but choreography too!

McGillian’s very best!

Tattoo, Why Not?

So about a month ago I was out to brunch with my girlies at Sabrina’s Cafe in the Italian Market. That week at Sabrina’s the menu was changed to be names after rappers and their songs, so my obvious choice was “36Mafia’s Sippin’ on that Special Sizzurp” Pancakes. So does the 36Mafia’s pancakes offer, umm amazingness, pumpkin pancakes filled with dried cranberries, blue berries and white chocolate chips. Topped with peach-orange syrup and strawberry butter. Mouth watering yet?

As we were finishing up our brunch the question of what to do for the rest of the day came up. Since Sabrina’s is BYOB we decided we needed a mimosa. We headed to Wishing Well, only a few blocks from Sabrina’s. Wishing Well is a local dive bar, but they stay classy by having mimosa’s and build your own Bloody Mary bar. I am there with my girlfriend’s Dana, Lesley and Amy, we start talking about the usual, work, school and boys. Then all of sudden Lesley goes, “Let’s go get tattoos on South Street”! So, Amy and Dana look at her like she is crazy and I am like yeah let’s do this! I have been dying to get a new tattoo, I have two now and hate even number, so obviously I needed to fix this.

We finish our mimosa’s and Lesley and I said good bye to Dana and Amy and headed down to South Street. At this point I am freaking out, what am going to get and where? I put some thought into it and decided what is the one place I am the happiest at? The mountains! When I am on the ski slopes there is no way I can be unhappy. So, next question where do I get it? I want it to be covered due to me being professional and the risk of my parents killing me. Decided to go for the ribs. Lesley went for a simplicity tattoo on her forearm with three arrows.

The tattooing was a breeze, a bit painful on the ribs, but doable. The tattoo itself maybe took 20 to 30 minutes for us both. Also, forgot how addicting they can be! I want another one now!

Sunday Funday

So, this past Sunday I woke up from a text from my friend Amy saying, “sunday funday?” and of course my response was “yes please!”. I headed over to Amy’s house once I got my  self together and we made our Sunday Funday plan! It was a Phillies away game, so we decided to go down to the Xfinity Center and enjoy the outdoor seating. So, we picked up our friend Dana in South Philly and headed down. We drive past and see there is no one outside and we look inside and all the chairs are up.

So, on to plan B. We were starved so the closest spot to Xfinity is the famous Chickie’s and Pete’s! Chickie’s and Pete’s has been a “the” Philadelphia sports bar to go since 1987! And if you do not know about Crabby Fries you need to get familiar ASAP. Crabby Fries are a staple on the Chickie’s and Pete’s menu. Also, Crabby Fries are available at the Citizen’s Baseball Park, Wells Fargo Center and the Xfinity Center.

After a few beers Crabby Fries and a burger it was on to the next location. Since Dana lives in South Philly, she suggested Cantina! We hopped into Amy’s car and headed back towards the city for some margaritas and salsa and chips! Catina has an amazing vibe with the people and the way it is decorated. Also, the margarita’s are amazing!

The Best Happy Hour in Center City!

I know, I know calling anything “the best” is kinda a big deal, but this Happy Hour is just that! Drinkers on 19th and Chestnut is mine and my friends go to happy hour. Happy hour runs from 7-9pm, which is the perfect way to start your night on Friday or Saturday. Also, if you are on the college budget, Drinkers has you covered ranging from $2 dollar Miller High Life’s to $4 dollar Absolut mixed drinks. Oh and before I blow your mind anymore, I believe this might be the only place that sells 40s at a bar in center city!

Oh and forgot Fireball Whiskey shots for $5! Lesley is ready to go now.

Looking to get traditional bar food too? Look no farther with $1 dollar tacos and I popped my corn dog cherry here at the price of $2 dollars. No matter where my friends and I might go we either start or end our night at Drinkers. The vibe is from young professionals continuing there happy hour’s from 5 and just beginning their night college crowd.

All hot dogs are under $4 dollars

Go “Out”side!

Spring has sprung in Philadelphia and it looks like it is finally here to stay! With this warm weather, where do we young 20 somethings go out too? There are a lot of options for outdoor late night fun, but I picked my top four. Each pick has its very own scene. My top four include: Morgan’s Pier, Silk City, Piazza at Schmidts and Rooftop of Continental Midtown.

Where is your favorite spot to go to on warm weathered nights in Philly?

Single in the City of Brotherly “LOVE”

So I don’t know about you, but as graduation nears I see more and more friends becoming engaged, married or having kids! I sit in front of my Facebook News Feed with my mouth open, speechless. I am 23 years old and about to graduate, so my main focus in my life is my career and obviously as you can tell I am not in a relationship. I just do not think I could juggle both currently right now. Don’t get me wrong, if prince charming came a long right now, I absolutely think I can make it work. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening in my near future. For all those single twenty somethings enjoying the single life or looking to mingle in Philadelphia, I made an info-graphic for you!

Would “love” everyone’s feed back on this too! Comments are greatly welcomed!

On Wednesday’s We Do Margaritas

This past Wednesday the group text messages for the happy hour get together with the girls began around 2pm. The three of us began throwing out ideas, Drinkers of course was first one of our favorites along with Continental, and El Rey were added in there too. Then it became decision time as 5pm came around and the final decision was  – El Rey!

El Rey is one of the many Stephan Starr restaurants in Philadelphia. The inside is decorated to perfection as a small Mexican cantina.   El Rey is located on 20th and Chestnut Street in Center City, Philadelphia.

Happy Hour is from 5 to 6:30pm with $1 tacos, $2 Tecate Cans, $3 Modelos, $4 House Margaritas. My two girlfriends and I of course went straight for the Margaritas! Honestly, hands down the best margarita in the city, better than El Vez! That takes a lot for me to say.

Once we got one margarita down, it was onto the $1 tacos, which you could choose from vegetarian, pork, chicken and shrimp. I got the vegetarian, chicken and shrimp and woha! For a dollar insanely amazing! I would still get them if they were priced at $5 dollars. That good!

Once 6:30 came around, being 3 margaritas and 3 tacos deep, it was onto one of the best happy hours ! It is the go to for my friends and I because it is a happy hour from 7 to 9pm. This place is…

If there is a Red Bull event in Philly…GO!

On Thursday, February 7, 2013 history was made in Philadelphia with a single event, Red Bull Regional ThreStyle. Red Bull ThreStyle is a DJ contest that is a night of dance-floor mayhem. The participants have to play a selection of at least three genres or styles of music in 15 minutes. It doesn’t matter what genres of music are chosen so long as the DJ can make them work together.

The participating DJs are judged on their track-selection, technical skills, creativity and most importantly their ability to bring the house down. It doesn’t matter if they know all the DJing tricks and techniques in the book, if they can’t get the feet on the dancefloor and hands in the air, they don’t stand a chance of winning a Red Bull Thre3Style contest. All participants are judged by a panel of professional party starting DJs with much experience in the industry, who included Philly’s own DJ Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak and Z-Trip.

The Red Bull Regional ThreStyle took place at Voyeur Night Club. Voyeur Nigh Club is the go to gay club in Philadelphia, but on Thursday it was completely Red Bull outed! The participates was Philadelphia’s DJ PHSH, Boston’s DJ LAYZEE BOY, Pittsburgh’s DJ Petey C, Washington DC’s Trayze and New York City’s DJ Zeke.

Boston’s DJ LAYZEE BOY began the competition with an amazing mash up for 15 minutes, but they saved the best for last Philadelphia’s DJ PHSH! A lot was on the line for DJ PHSH since he had to bring for his home city of brotherly lover and he did just that! It was clear who the winner was as soon as DJ PHSH spun! And winner is…Philadelphia’s own DJ PHSH!

After the competition, Philadelphia legend DJ Jazzy Jeff jumped on the turn tables and spun the for the rest of night until 3am! Seriously, this event was amazing and did I forget to mention FREE! The next day I have never been so soar from dancing in my life, but completely worth it!

Bottom line whenever there is a Red Bull event in the city Philadelphia…GO! Not only are they usually FREE, Red Bull knows how to get down!

How to Do a Monday in Philadelphia

It’s a Monday night in Philadelphia and maybe you are one of those lucky one’s who does not have class on Tuesday or not until later. Either way you want go out and continue the weekend’s shenanigans! The best place to be on a Monday night in Philadelphia is no other than The Barbary ! The Barbary is located on 951 Frankford Ave only a quick bus or cab ride away from Temple University’s campus. Every Monday night, The Barbary has a “Tiger Beats” dance party, even better there a open bar from 9 until close with $1 beers and $3 well drinks. Fits perfectly into the college budget.

Also, if you are a chick. You have to check out one of the most famous graffiti tags in Philadelphia. It is located in the girls upstairs bathroom in The Barbary. If you are not a chick, maybe sneak in and take a look. The graffiti reads…

So, the “Tiger Beats” dance party does not throw down until 10pm, so the perfect stop before you hit the dance floor is Frankford Hall! It is only a block and a half away from The Barbary at 1210 Frankford Ave. Frankford Hall has one of the coolest lay outs in the city, it was inspired by a open-air German beer garden. Obviously, Stephan Starr would be the mastermind behind this unique urban beer garden experience.

Also, highly recommend trying out the food. The menu is priced very reasonably and goes a long with the German beer garden theme. The Warm Bavarian Pretzel with Obazda Cheese Dip is amazing! My beverage of choice was the warm mulled wine perfect for the cold snowy night this past Monday.

This upcoming Monday I hope you switch it up and check out The Barbary and make a pre-game stop at Frankford Hall! Be sure to let me know if you do and become addicted to going out every Monday night for “Tiger Beats” dance party!

Couple more pictures from the night!
