Mad men is a show that is set in the 1960’s and is about the advertising industry in that time in Madison Avenue in New York City.   Actually it is more about the life of Don Draper as head of creative in an advertising agency.  I do not want to give anything away because this show has many twist and they are good.  Let’s just say that Don is not who he says he is and that is where it gets really interesting.  The whole show is set in the complex times of the 1960’s and it actually goes through actual events like the death of President Kennedy and Martin Luther King.  It shows how life at that time was and the effects it had on the people.  Don Draper is a complex character that you end up rooting for even though he does bad things.  Actually the more he is bad the better the show is.  I highly recommend this show but it must be watched from the beginning or else you will be lost.

Dexter is probable the best of the serial killer show that are out there today.  I know I have been going on about serial killer shows and that I might have some issues but that is not the case.  These just happen to be well written shows.  Dexter is definite the best out of all of them because it has the most unique view of the serial killer subject.  Dexter Morgan is a guy who can’t help but kill people in a brutal way but he still lives by a code in which people can be killed.  He kills only bad people who he can prove they are bad.  Killers and rapist are dropping off the face of the earth in Miami and it is all do to Dexter Morgan.  He hides this from everyone including his sister, who like him works for the Miami Police Department.  You can’t help but root for this serial killer.  He is doing the city of Miami a service.  This is an excellent written show with great characters.

After blogging about The Following being like Hannibal Lecter with a cult following it is only fitting that I talk about the new show called Hannibal.  This is a show about the origins of Dr. Lecter when he was still just a psychiatrist.  I had just watched the pilot and I am blown away about this show and apparently so am the critics.  It is getting great reviews and it should.  It shows a young Will Graham who is social awkward and they have hinted in the pilot may be on the Autism spectrum and this gives him a unique ability to profile a killer by visualize the actions of the killer.  It is really interesting and I highly recommend checking it out.

Kevin Bacon stars in a show called The Following.  This just proves the original TV series has a new significant place on not just cable channels but also network channels as well.  This show is on Fox on Monday nights at 9.  It is kind of like Hannibal Lecter with a cult following.  This show is truly original.  We are used to the serial killer shows or movies but this has a twist. This serial killer named Joe Carroll has an actual cult following that due anything he wants and they could be anyone including cops.

Game of Thrones is back.  This is a great show with so many characters it’s sometimes hard to keep track of.  The show is about a mystical world called Westeros.  There are seven families and there are all fighting for the Iron Throne which means they control all of the seven kingdoms.  It can get confusing sometimes but stick with it and you will not regret it because there is a lot of sex and violence.  But that is actually just the icing on the cake.  There are just great story lines and excellent characters in this show.  They will pull you into this world and when an episode is over you will want more.  If you have not tried this show please give it a try and stick with it you will not regret it.  I can’t even do this show justice in one blog.

The Americans is a new show on FX that is getting a lot of attention…and it should.  It is well scripted show with great characters and just some cool 80′s spy shit.  It starts out a little slow but it has been building up in the past few episodes and keeps you guessing about every move these people make.  It is cool because it show the side of the Russians.  It follows two Russian spies Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell)  living in  the United State as sleeper agents.  They are married and have two children that are their real children.  Philip and Elizabeth did not even know each other before they were assigned to the United States together and that is where it becomes really interesting because they still have to live together and raise their children as Americans (children are unaware their parents are Russian Spies).  it also follows an FBI agent who is part of the counterintelligence division whose mission is to locate Russian Spies.  Oh and one more thing, he lives across the street from Elizabeth and Philip.  If you have not tried this show out I highly recommend it because it is getting really good and it has a lot of twist and turns and you almost find yourself rooting for these commie bastards.

I never thought I would be into a zombie show because well frankly, zombies have always kind of freaked me out ever since I saw “Night of the Living Dead” when I was twelve.  A while back a  friend of mine kept talking about “The Walking Dead” and when I saw that it was on Netfix I said what the hell and gave it a try.   Ever since then I could not stop watching it or talking about it which is also fun.  I think it is the characters that really drive this show.

Last season, the big revelation was that even if you are killed in a regular way (not by walkers) you will turn into a zombie (they are called walkers in the show).  I was told by someone that they actually revealed that in the CDC episode from 2 seasons ago so I am going to go back and watch that episode again (one of the best episodes).  .  We also found that Merle was living with the town people and is crazier than ever.

This season has started off a little slow but if you know the show it just keeps building and building and then punches you in the face.  So this season there are still two camps of humans, the people in the prison and the people in the town.  The” Governor” of the town is truly out of his mind and hell bent on killing anyone who gets in his way including everyone at the prison.   After saving his brother from the Governor who did not trust Merle anymore, Daryl wanted to go back to the prison but he felt obligated to his brother Merle and nobody at the prison or town likes Merle (tried to kill a couple of them and tortured one) so they were force to go out on their own but that did not last long so at the end of the last episode they both show up at the prison so it should be interesting how Merle is accepted by the prison group.  Frankly, I think someone should put a bullet in his head post-hast.  Rick has truly lost his mind ever since his wife died and he heard the phone ring in the last season and now he is seeing his dead wife’s ghost walking around.   The last scene of the last episode showed the Governor and his cronies attacking the prison.  It was pretty cool when they drove that truck through the gate and then you see the back of the truck open and a bunch of dead walking out (clever move by the crazy one eyed Governor).

The thing I would like to see more of is flashbacks of when the outbreak first happened.  They have showed a few and they are always interesting.  I would like to see more of how the group first got together.  Also I would like to see what the government was trying to do about the outbreak.  One flashback they showed them bombing a city which was a cool scene.

There have been a lot of new original series that have come out lately from Showtime, HBO, AMC, and FX.  AMC and FX were considered the newcomers but now Netflix has joined the ranks but once again they have an edge on the competition.  With HBO, Showtime, AMC, FX and all the rest, you watch an episode then you have to wait a week to watch the next episode.For those of you who are fans of shows like” Homeland” and “Game of Thrones” you know that week can take forever.  Netflix has a different plan.  They are putting out  Original Series all at once so you can just continue to watch episode after episode until the end of the season.  They have so far two originals,” Lillyhammer” and” House of Cards”.  I have not watch “Lillyhammer” but I have watch all of House of Cards.  Turns out I could not stop watching House of Cards and was done it in like 3 days.  If anyone likes political dramas ( I will have to talk about “Boss” in a later post) this is one you will not stop watching.  It stars Kevin Spacey and do I need to say more.  The guy crushes it.  They are also coming out with a new season of Arrested Development ( a great show that went off the air about 7 years ago) which is something I can’t wait for.  I know i said I would not be talking about sitcoms but this is so important (especially for Arrested Development fans like myself) that I had to mention it.

Welcome to my blog.  In this blog I will be discussing quality series television shows such as Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones, Homeland and many more. There will be no discussion of reality TV on this blog because they are not worth writing about.  I will also not be discussing sitcoms even though there are some really good ones (see: Seinfeld, Simpsons, 30Rock, Arrested Development).

It seems that today certain series TV shows are getting more attention than movies and that is because the stories are just better.  Don’t get me wrong I do love a good movie but it seems that today I am finding better stories on TV.  I welcome any comments on any of these show or suggestions on any new series that are on TV or coming soon to TV.
